You are invited to join Cherry Hills Community Church for our 2023 tour of the Holy Land!

After a long pause in travel to Israel, travel has now opened up again. No vaccines required, no COVID-19 testing! Now is the time for the trip of a lifetime!

Here is our great itinerary:

note: at times, due to local events, weather, etc., we need to change the schedule. Your days will be filled with great touring even if it is not exactly as printed.

Wednesday, December 6 –

We depart from the USA. Airfare is included from your local airport, in most cases. Flights are booked individually to allow for upgrades, early arrivals, and extended European layovers, if desired (additional fees may apply).

Thursday, December 7 –

We arrive in Israel! An agent will meet you at the airport and get you to our hotel in Netanya, about 45 minutes away.

Friday, December 8 –

Our first stop is beautiful Caesarea, on the coast of the Mediterranean! This site will bring the “wow” factor you were hoping for! A great theater, hippodrome, Crusader-era fortress, and you will “walk where Paul walked!”

Next, on to Mt. Carmel, where Elijah called down fire from heaven in that great Old Testament showdown. The views of the valley of Armageddon are spectacular from this vantage point. Which is exactly why we should go from Mt. Carmel to the ancient city of Megiddo, from which the valley gets its name. Going back to the days of King Solomon, you’ll be fascinated as you learn what a “Tel” is, and see the amazing water system of Megiddo. Before your eyes will be a panorama of the locations of much of the Old Testament era of the Judges.

We will make our way to our beautiful hotel in northern Galilee.

Saturday, December 9 –

Let’s begin the day with a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee! For the first time you will “walk where Jesus walked,” in the ancient ruins of Capernaum and the shores of Galilee. And you are welcome to attempt to walk on the water…just have faith! We will see the beautiful sites of the Sea of Galilee including Magdala (home of Mary Magdalene), the Mount of Beatitudes, and much more, including the beautiful Jordan river.

Sunday, December 10 –

This is a northern Galilee day. From “Dan in the north” up to the Syrian border, you will learn ancient history (going back to Abraham) and the  modern history of the Golan Heights. We will also visit several “Six Day War” sites, like the Valley of the Tears and Mt. Bental. Our overnight will be in the same northern Galilee hotel as yesterday.

Monday, December 11 –

It’s time to head south! Our first stop will be Gideon’s spring, where you can almost see the men drinking out of the fresh water. After this, the ancient city of the Decapolis, Beit Shean will fascinate the imagination and be a great place for learning first-century Jewish and Roman life.

Then, moving south along the Jordan River, we will come to Qumran, desert home of the Essenes and of the world-famous Dead Sea Scrolls. The visit is fascinating, and the views are spectacular. But we will save time for a short journey to our hotel on the banks of the Dead Sea itself, with plenty of time for a float on the mineral-rich waters.

Tuesday, December 12 –

One of our favorite sites (we think you will agree) is ancient Masada, the Herodian fortress made famous by the “last stand” of the Jews following the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70.  The post-Biblical story is awe-inspiring, and the architecture is tremendous.

A few miles up the road is the oasis of Ein Gedi, where David met Saul in one of the many caves. The waterfalls of the oasis are fresh, “living waters” in the desert.

From here, we begin our wilderness journey up to Jerusalem, the Holy City. After an inspiring overlook, we will go to our Jerusalem hotel, where we will spend the rest of our nights.

Wednesday, December 13 –

Let’s go back to the days of King David, and possibly to his very Palace!  Along the way, we will see the tunnels of Hezekiah (care to walk in the water? It’s optional, but fabulously fun). Whether you take the wet route or the dry route, we will all end up at the Pool of Siloam, famous as the location of a few of Jesus’ miracles. Then we will take a few miles journey to Bethlehem, visiting the caves and the famous Church of the Nativity. If time allows, we will go to the burial site of King Herod.

Thursday, December 14 –

Let’s get a perspective on Jerusalem by stopping at the Israel Museum for a walk through the famous Jerusalem model, showing the way Jerusalem looked in Jesus’ day. We will give a short time for some quick, on-your-own journeys through the exhibits of the museum itself. Then we are off to Gush Etzion, where you will learn the horrors and the victories of the 1948 War of Independence.

Friday, December 15 –

Our last day will begin atop the Mount of Olives, where we will learn about Jesus’ discourse concerning the last days. We will make our way down the mount, by foot, stopping at an ancient prophet’s tomb, learning about the history of burial at this location, and finally ending up in the Garden of Gethsemane. Then we will cross the Kidron brook and go to the Via Dolorosa, the “way of suffering,” following the steps of Jesus from His trial to His crucifixion. We will visit both the Church of the Holy Sepulcher and the Garden Tomb, the two traditional sites for the burial of Jesus. Our time of worship at the Garden Tomb will be memorable, and a great conclusion to the trip of a lifetime.

Saturday, December 16 –

In your early morning flight from Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv you will settle in for a long trip, but all with a happy and full heart. Most travelers will arrive back to your home airport before sundown on Saturday.  (Note: some flights may depart late Friday night).
